Volunteering at St Benedict's Hospice

Our hospice relies heavily on the dedicated army of volunteers who proudly give up their own time to support us in so many ways across a range of our services. If you could spare some time each week to help St Benedict's Hospice, we'd love to hear from you. There are opportunities in a range of roles and by volunteering with us you can learn new skills, make new friends, help support our community and have fun!

Available Roles

Dedication Tree

Our much loved annual Dedication Tree has will be taking place in The Bridges again this year and this event is where our community and supporters can come along and remember their loved ones by dedicating their own personal messages in the run up to Christmas. We are looking for volunteers to assist supporters by collecting donations, offering support and hanging the dedications on our tree. This year we will be at The Bridges, Sunderland from 16th Nov – 13th Dec from 9am – 5pm and 7pm for late night shopping.

For more information or to book a 2 hour slot to volunteer please contact Lisa on 07710092803 or Lisa.peverley@stft.nhs.uk .

Transport - Volunteer Drivers

Our transport service is a key part of the Charity's provision and operates 5 days each week. Each journey is customised to meet the needs of individual patients and provided by our team of volunteer drivers whose schedule is agreed with our Transport Co-ordinator.  If you can offer at least a half day each week, preferably more, and enjoy good health with a reasonable level of fitness, it means we can provide more patients with the services they need and which we know they value. In order to comply with our vehicle and passenger insurance arrangements, we can only consider people who have a clean driving licence with D or D1 entitlement to drive minibuses and are aged between 25 and 75 years of age. We also need people to undergo a DBS clearance prior to joining the team.
