Light up a Life 2021

Thousands of lights will shine brightly in the grounds of St Benedict’s Hospice over the festive season, each in honour of someone special who is greatly missed.

When you make a donation, we will send you a personalised commemorative card with the name, or names, of your loved one. Take time to remember and celebrate the life of your loved one, whilst supporting local patients, their family and friends at this time of year.

We will post dedications out from the end of November 2021, in time for our Light up a Life service. To ensure that your Light up a Life dedication(s) are included in the service remembrance book, please make your dedication and donation by Friday, 5th November 2021.

To make a donation to our Light up a Life appeal, donate online at stbenedicts.light-up-a-life.org/2021. Alternatively, you can call us on 0191 512 8436 or print and add your details to this form and return it to the Fundraising Team here at the hospice.

Light up a Life service

Our Light up a Life service will be taking place at St Benedict’s Hospice, Ryhope, SR2 0NY at 4.30pm on Sunday, 5th December. During the service, the lights in the hospice grounds will be lit – each of them shining in memory of a loved one. There will be uplifting music, singing and comforting readings to enjoy together. We will also be sharing the Light up a Life service online the following week, via the St Benedict’s Hospice website and social media accounts. We hope you are able to join us to celebrate the lives of those we love.

This year we are delighted to be able to welcome you back to the hospice grounds for our Light up a Life service. The service will begin at 4.30pm, with music from 4.10pm. We ask that you please arrive no earlier than 4pm as we are not able to have stalls this year, in the way that we have in the past. There will be tea lights available for a donation to the hospice and you will be able to collect your copy of the remembrance book. We expect the service to finish at approximately 5.15pm.

Parking

Parking is available on Waterworks Road at Ryhope Engines Museum (SR2 0ND), Hopewood Park Hospital (SR2 ONB), St Paul’s C of E Primary School (SR2 0LW), Busy Bees Nursery (SR2 0LW) and on the street leading up to the hospice. We will have parking attendants available to guide drivers on the day. We are keeping spaces in the hospice grounds free to ensure that there is sufficient parking available for staff, volunteers and family and friends who are visiting patients. Bus services that pass by the hospice are Arriva service 22 and Go North East services 60 and 61. Please check timetables prior to travel.

Covid-19 secure measures

This year, due to Covid-19, things are going to look a little different. We ask that you arrive from 4pm and not earlier please. We will be running the service entirely outside and there will not be access to the hospice, unless in case of an emergency. Anti-bacterial hand gel will be available on all tables. We invite you to take a Lateral Flow Test before attending the service and ask that you do not attend if you have a positive test result or do not feel well on the day of the event. Please wear a mask if you are able to.
