St Benedict’s Hospice has provided specialist palliative care to the people of Sunderland and surrounding districts since 1984. Care is provided by the NHS as part of South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust and is also supported by St. Benedict’s Hospice charity.

In recognition of the benefit and value of hospice care, our services have grown over the years. We are now a centre of excellence providing a range of services across the whole community. These include day services, out-patients, care in the home, hospital or care home as well as in-patient beds.

We offer an honest and open environment. We treat your stay as an extension of your own home, respecting your individual wishes and providing your care at a pace that suits you. We will work with you, your family and carers to give you personalised care that maintains your dignity, privacy and freedom of informed choice.

St Benedict’s Hospice welcomes everyone who will benefit from the expertise and care of our multi professional team. We care for people with difficult or distressing symptoms whether they are physical, emotional or spiritual.

Gold Standards Framework for Care Homes Training Programme

The GSF Care Homes Training programme is the most widely used training programme for all care homes in the UK, supporting residents as they near the end of their lives. We are delighted to be able to provide this accredited programme in your area.

Our new Care Home programme will be starting in July 2017.

Deciding Right is an integrated approach to making care decisions in advance with children, young people and adults. Click to view a short presentation which is aimed at raising public awareness of an initiative to support you to make plans about your future care.
