Light up a Life service 2022
Our annual Light up a Life service took place at the Beacon of Light on Sunday, 4th December 2022. It was lovely to see so many people come together for a very special afternoon to remember loved ones.
Doors opened at 1pm to allow time for attendees to browse our hospice stalls. There was a raffle draw with fantastic prizes, Christmas gift items, cards, calendars and diaries. Tea, coffee and festive treats were also available for a donation to the hospice.
Beautiful photos of loved ones were added to our Light up a Life memory wall and there was a mini dedication tree to hang messages to loved ones on.
The service began at 3pm and was led by our hospice Chaplain, Rebecca Amoroso. There were carols performed by the Salvation Army Band and Inspire Ladies Choir – Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Away in a Manger and O Come All Ye Faithful. There was a reading from the Gospel of Luke by Sue, who is a Healthcare Assistant here at St Benedict’s Hospice. The poem Christmas Memories by Sandy Siewers was read out by The Right Worshipful The Mayor of the City of Sunderland Councillor Alison Smith.
The hospice lights were turned on by members of Alf Barrett’s family. Alf was cared for last summer by our Day Services team and took the time last year to tell us how much the support he and his family received meant to them. Alf’s story was shared for Light up a Life this year – you can read it by clicking here. Soloist, Kathy Price, sang Wonder As I Wander whilst we took time to reflect on memories of loved ones.
A special thank you goes to our service sponsor, Longden Walker & Renney Solicitors. We would also like to thank everyone who joined us, made a donation and was involved in the service. Your continued support means so much to the local patients we care for.
If you weren’t able to attend the service, copies of our Light up a Life Remembrance Book can be collected from the hospice or any of our hospice charity shops.
