Complementary Therapy

A range of complementary therapies are available at St Benedict’s Hospice including:

  • Gentle massage: for example shoulder and neck, head, foot and hand. The therapist will use soft, stroking movements and other gentle techniques, either with oil or over clothes, to soothe away tension and encourage relaxation.
  • Reiki: the therapist will rest hands gently on, or above, different areas of the body to help bring a sense of balance, relaxation and well-being.
  • Hypnotherapy: this is a non-touch therapy which will help relaxation. It is often used to help with emotional problems, such as fears, anxieties, trauma and depression.

The therapies aim to help soothe, calm, relax, and in some situations, relieve symptoms. Therapies can be delivered while the patient lies or sits comfortably in their bed or chair or in the designated Therapy Suite.
