Fundraising

There are many ways you can help St Benedict's Hospice and in this section you will find information about ways to help, from simply making a donation, holding an event, taking part in an event, setting up a standing order for regular giving, workplace giving, leaving a legacy and many other things.

St Benedict's Hospice takes it's fundraising responsibilities very seriously as every penny raised for the charity is used wisely and carefully to support the wide range of services offered to patients and their families.  We are very grateful to everyone who donates to the hospice however large or small that donation is.  If you would like to read how we manage our donors and their donations please see our Ethical Fundraising & Donation Acceptance Policy.  We strive always to ensure that our supporters are appreciated and informed but should anyone have any queries or complaints about our fundraising and/or communication methods then please contact, in the first instance, our Head of Fundraising Operations at the address below:

Christopher Bray, Director of Income Generation & Operations, St Benedict's Hospice & Centre for Palliative Care, St Benedict's Way, Sunderland SR2 0NY in writing or by email.

If you receive regular communications from us and would like to change your contact details or contact preferences then we will be happy to do this for you.  Please call us during office hours on 0191 512 8436 or email us.  You should be assured that the information we hold about you is used purely for our record keeping and marketing/communication purposes.  We never sell information from our database to third parties and if using a third party organisation for the purposes of sending out our communications we work only with organisations who are registered with the ICO and who comply with all current Data Protection Laws.  Please read our full Privacy Notice.

If you have any questions for the Fundraising Department please contact us during office hours.

Whichever way you choose to give please don't forget to Gift Aid it if you pay UK Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax - this can increase your donation by at least another 25p for every £ donated - therefore a donation of £10 can be made in to £12.50 at no extra cost to yourself.  You can download a Gift Aid form here or contact us to find out more.

Collecting boxes

Could your business, club, pub or organisation house one of our collecting boxes? We'd like to increase our income by housing more collecting boxes in the community.

We can also provide you with a convenient loose change collecting box for home or office use. These flat pack, cardboard collecting boxes are a neat way to collect all that spare change that you often have lying around the house or in your desk.

If you'd like either of these boxes please contact us.

Organise your own activity

It could be a charity night in the local, a cycle ride, sponsored walk, dress down day, male waxing.... The ideas are as wide as your imagination. We can support you fully through the entire process; it’s not as hard as it sounds and we'll provide you with all the legal guidance and support that you'll need to make your FUNdraising event go without a hitch. Take a look at our online Fundraising Guide for more information about how to organise an event, then simply complete our Fundraising Activity Form to get started. If we don’t have a completed form we don’t know you’re doing the activity! You must only use our official sponsor forms – you cannot design your own.

If you require any information or advice please contact us.

Take a Challenge

There are so many exciting challenges you could do to raise funds for St Benedict's. You can trek, bike and climb throughout the world through a variety of companies, each offering responsible tourism and full support. Some companies even incorporate the opportunity for you to get involved with a community project in the destination country.

Contact us for more information about the following (and more) challenges:

  • Skydive
  • Cycle in Vietnam or Cuba?
