Vacancy - Assistant Transport Co-ordinator (Full-time, salary £16,0875 pa)
Due to the retirement of the previous post holder, a position has become vacant for a full time Assistant Transport Co-ordinator, working 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday, based at St Benedict’s Hospice & Centre for Specialist Palliative Care in Ryhope, Sunderland.
St Benedict’s Hospice operates a bespoke transport service for patients and their relatives/carers who use the hospice services. This involves transporting patients and relatives to and from the hospice with the aim of minimising their time in transit. It is very much a ‘patient needs’ focussed service.
The role is to support the Transport Co-ordinator in providing this service and would involve:
- supervising the team of volunteer drivers and their workload
- planning routes and schedules
- monitoring the vehicles and arranging maintenance
- filling in as a driver as and when required
There is also an element of administration in supporting the production of management reports using MS Office applications.
The successful applicant will need a good level of physical fitness with an appropriate driving licence to drive classes of vehicle up to 17 seat minibuses. Applicants should have a friendly and approachable manner to fit in with the kind and caring ethos of the hospice and also have a sound knowledge of MS Word and Excel.

St Benedict's Hospice Charity is seeking to recruit new members to the Trustee Board. The charity works within a strategic agreement with South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust to support the work of St Benedict's Hospice & Centre for Specialist Palliative Care. The charity has challenging future ambitions and to help develop strategic, business and fundraising plans we are seeking to strengthen the Trustee Board.

Volunteer Drivers Needed For Our Patient Transport Service
St Benedict's Hospice, Sunderland has opportunities for Volunteer Drivers within our Transport team.
Our transport service is a key part of the Charity's provision and operates 5 days each week. Each journey is customised to meet the needs of individual patients and provided by our team of volunteer drivers whose schedule is agreed with our Transport Co-ordinator.
Recent purchase of new vehicles has increased our fleet so that we are able to provide transport for more patients to and from their homes and St Benedict's Hospice
If you can offer at least a half day each week, preferably more, and enjoy good health with a reasonable level of fitness, it means we can provide more patients with the services they need and which we know they value.
In order to comply with our vehicle and passenger insurance arrangements, we can only consider people who have a clean driving licence with D or D1 entitlement to drive minibuses and are aged between 25 and 75 years of age. We also need people to undergo a DBS clearance prior to joining the team.
