Day Services

Day services offer an option for patients who live in their own home to attend the Hospice for symptom management, emotional, psychological and social support and respite. We also offer carer support.

The team comprises qualified nursing staff (Sister, nurse practitioner, staff nurses), health care assistants, complementary therapy, ward clerk, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychologist, counsellor, pharmacist, hairdresser, art therapist and access to Palliative care consultants; we are also supported each day by volunteers. We will liaise directly with others involved in your care including district nurses, community matrons and GP’s.

We operate Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, taking up to 14 patients a day. You will initially be asked to attend for an assessment appointment. During this assessment the purpose and relevance of attending day services will be discussed. You will be offered the opportunity to attend based upon your individual needs, be it for a full day, or to access the services you require.

Below are three poems written for Day Care by one of their patients who has since been discharged. They capture his experiences within the Day Care environment.

A Dedication to Day Services

A Part of My Life (October 2016 - July 2016)

The Place of Wonder ... A Wonderful Place

  • " I was unsure the first time but when I got there I met other men and joined in with talking. I was comfortable and enjoyed it and looked forward to going back again. "

  • " We are encouraged to join in various activities, which the staff join in too. "

  • " Everything was done by the caring staff to make my day very pleasant. I thank you all, God Bless!! "

  • " It is wonderful being looked after as I’m living alone and it is the highlight of the week. "
